Stafsnes is one of Heimaey’s most beautiful spots
From there, the view over the outer islands in the south is truly amazing, especially in late summer with evening falling. This peninsula is long and narrow and comes out from Dalfjall with a small bay going alongside it. Stafsnesfjara is at the head of it.
It is well worth the effort to visit Stafsnes. To reach it, you start your hike in Herjólfsdalur, first by going up to the top of Dalfjall. From there you descend down to Stafsnes. This part of the hike is quite demanding and very steep.
As tempting it may be, we strongly advise visitors against going for a swim in Stafsnes. Currents can be very strong and hazardous.
