Páskahellir, The Easter Cave, is the ideal spot to observe the new lava from the 1973 eruption
The cave is on the eastside of Eldfell, roughly on the edge of Heimaey’s old coastline.
The eruption started on January 23rd and ended on July 3rd. The cave was formed during Easter, from where it gets its name. There is a tradition among locals to visit the cave during Easter.
