Herjólfsdalur holds many sweet memories for Icelanders
Bank holiday, the last weekend in July or the first one in August, the most attended summer gathering in Iceland, called The Festival, takes place in Herjólfsdalur. This valley is almost like custom made for The Festival where thousands of guests from all over the country gather for music and dance.
However, Herjólfsdalur has more significance to locals in the Westman Islands, historically. This valley, for instance, is considered to be the home of Herjólfur Bárðarson, the first settler of the Westman Islands.
