Whale Watching

There are numerous whale species around the Westman Islands and whales are regularly spotted near the islands

Although there are no planned whale watching trips, passengers on boats from Rib Safari and Viking Tours should not be surprised if a whale makes an appearance during their tour.

Each summer large families of killer whales dwell in the waters around the Westman Islands while foraging. Studies show that there are around 100 individuals of that species during the summer, distinguishable from photos.

Other species that regularly are spotted near the Westman Islands are mink whales, porpoises and pilot whales. Larger whales stay further out but during certain periods, humpback whales come closer in and are frequently spotted during that time.
